Fairy Tale Opera
Family opera performance from 2016
Family opera performance from 2016
Opera is a fairy tale for adults. There are princesses and knights, kings, rusalkas, and other oddly dressed characters. Even when the action takes place among mere mortals, it is abundant in great deeds, passionate feelings, and confusing misunderstandings.
We would like to tell these stories all the children again! We will reach for the language of story tales while keeping all the musical content. There will be arias, duets, and trios: queens, witches, Hansel and Gretel, and Cinderella’s ugly sisters, too. We will also invite our youngest viewers to the stage – the performance with their help cannot fail!
Fairy Tale Opera is an opera collage – a performance comprising morceaux of opera pieces (by various composers), which received a new, coherent plot. The performance, like the proper opera, consists of four acts.
Each one tells a different story. To make the arias, duets, and trios understandable, we replaced the authentic lyrics with own original texts in Polish. All dialogues, both these in which children participate and these performed on stage, have the form of improvised recitatives (melodious melodeclamation) – and they are in Polish, too.
We adopted fragments of fairy-tale-theme operas on purpose. We reached for the rarities from the opera literature, owing to which the performance is equally attractive for adult opera enthusiasts.
